Re: Anyone know a good place to go to for base palettes?

Since you tool, I'm assume you have access to a program with, at least, the brush tool. You can pick colours from pictures and blend/alter them with "Colour Balance" or "Hue/ Saturation". If you need a starting point, try looking for skin palettes in places like DA or Pinterest. These are some I fou...

Re: Do you use OLD bases?

There used to be a site that acted as a database for bases. Just bases and anyone could submit their bases. I doubt it's still around and I can't remember what it was called anyway. Could it be PixiStar ? There are DA groups focused on gathering as many original bases as possible. They're not updat...

Re: Do you use OLD bases?

The times have changed a lot. Anime traced bases are not used for dolls, but for "base art" or "base edits", especially on DA and Tumblr. Most of the work I've seen is of OCs and self-inserts in shows and fanfiction, so there's no need for any deep meaning or real artistic merit. The lack of meaning...

Re: Do you use OLD bases?

If by "new dollers" you mean the young, inexperienced, Anime base users, then no. I'm pretty sure they know nothing about DHF or Xandorra. I think I remember one of the old dollers (a big name) making a return to dolling, and some of the youngest dollers simply didn't get what made it so special. To...

Re: Do I still got it?

I do miss how back then almost everything was hosted on personal websites, so you had places to go gossip and learn a bit more about other dollers. I think it was a fad and when many old dollers either quit or went on long hiatus, keeping up with a website became just too much work. Especially compa...

Re: Do you use OLD bases?

I guess that as long as you give credit, it could be seen as some little tribute to the basemaker. I do use DHF's from time to time. And I have some older ones saved from Historical Dolls. Bunnystick.com has a section titled "Dead Bases" with old bases that cannot be found elsewhere. I think I saved...

Re: Do I still got it?

I got into dolling for those too! :D I loved going to DHF and reading their tutorials, their advent calendars, using their bases... I also liked Fainelloth and Hinia, but Isodel's (from Isodel's Magick) darker style with very deep shadows and richer colours was my true weakness. I think her dolls st...

And the Queen of Armour strikes again! Love the subtle hue shifting in their armours. The details, especially in their faces, are mind-blowing. I agree with Artzy: super amazing.

Re: Do I still got it?

No idea what techniques I used to us, and anyway I no longer have the same program so I kinda just had to make it up. And I took what I'd figured out for digital painting and then just applied it to a 300000xs smaller surface. That's exactly how it's done :D You did a fantastic job. It reminds me o...

These are lovely :D I like the first doll's design. Very cute and elaborate. I love the gradient effect you achieved with the pinks near the outlines of the white parts of her dress. Great job at rendering her ringlets too. That base is beautiful and very usable. I'm sure lots of pretty dolls could ...

Re: WIPs.

If you feel like it, you should. It's fun and you'll learn a lot from it that you can apply to your other works. You don't need to stick to just one method or style, have fun and experiment. Give yourself some freedom to know your tools and craft.

Re: WIPs.

That looks really good! If you keep drawing and painting digitally, your tooling will improve too, even if you don't practise it that often. Just keep at it, have fun and learn to use your tools. You're doing a great job already :D

She's lovely! I love the bright colours you used for her details, they go well with her warmer skintone and add some glow to the whole image. I'm amazed at how much detail you managed to add to such a small canvas. Really nice job! :D

Unfortunately, I can't see it here. I get an image that reads: "imgbb.com Image not found" :( But I went to your DA and I must say it's a very cute base. I like her proportions, very alienesque like you said, but also great for many other things like caricature, stylisation and fashion dolls. I thin...

These are lovely :D I like the fact that we get two hand on hip poses with different perspectives, that will make for some very interesting dolls. And the pose of the sitting doll is perfect; I love the subtle action going on between the raised leg and the arms. As always, your shading is spot on, a...

Re: Dress/Fold Help?

The best way to start is taking a long look at the pose and your reference. The base is flexing her knees with her left one moving upwards and her right one slightly outwards to our left. Then look at your reference and try to guess or simply pick a length. Based on the proportions of your reference...
