av hair help!

Post by raeli » Tue Jan 19, 2010 4:03 pm

okiee, I've been AWOL for a long time so I wanted to make a new avatar for this site, but I'm soooo stuck! I'm doing a side-ponytail and I can't figure out how to do the top part of the head.

[just wanted to show hollay's original base to show off my face edits :3]

anyway! I'm fine with how the actual pony itself is, but if you see anything funky I guess you can let me know. ^^
but I have no idea what to do with the top of the head. ~__~
I have some sketchy shading up there, but I'm not set on any of it so pleaaase tips, red lines, reference photos, whatever you can offer me! I'm at a loss and I'd like to get this show on the road. lol

I appreciate it!

:!:EDIT:!:

just finished some lines...

closer, yeah?
:3

p.s. I didn't scrap the ponytail, I just used an empty bust to sketch on [hence the not-black eyebrows ^^]

I'd say all you need is some more highlights in the hair.
Compare the ponytail to the rest of the hair; it's much more highlighted.
The back of the hair could use some more texture. Right now, since it's just one solid color, it doesn't fit with the rest of the hair.
Also, the part seems too straight to me. I think the shadow should be more jagged, like where the shadow is for the top of the ponytail, under the chin.
I very much like the pony tail itself too. It looks great, I wouldn't change it a bit. &the face edit it just fantastic. Gosh knows I can't do anatomy.
I'm looking forward to seeing this when it's finished!

yeah, I actually haven't shaded the back of the head at ALL [except for a strand hanging down by her face, but I sorta aborted that half-way through.]

I mostly just need help with how the hair would be sitting on her head.
like, I haven't shaded because I can't really picture how the hair would move, you know?
-___-

thanks for the advice, though! and the part was giving me troubles, but again, I haven't really shaded the top.

ahh, I can't wait to see her done, either. especially after all the headaches :P

Wow, the lines look fantastic!
The hair has such a great shape now; it looks like the ponytail is much more tense rather than loose.
I'd say when it's filled in, it should look quite nice.
