My first base...

Post by Lithuria » Sun May 30, 2010 8:30 pm

So here she is...

Image

My very first base...Take away my hiatus and it's not like I'm new to dolling so I finally decided that I really wanted to try base making. I'm not patient, which is why after a while on the legs I decided to turn her into a "bust" rather than throwing my computer out of the window!

Things I like...

The shading...I've always had problems when editing faces with the shading, but I think this is pretty ok

The face...it's turned out really anime esque. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing. It wasn't meant to be as such but at least you can tell it's a face!

Proportions...I think they're ok

Things I don't like...

The arms...I basically chickened out of doing hands or full arms and took the cowards way out!

The legs...as you can see they are missing, making this a very small bust. I nearly threw the computer out the window before deciding on missing them out! Still, one could compensate...there's no reason an extending skirt or mermaid tail cannot be added in full dolly mode

It looks like one of those mass produced traced anime bases...but I promise you it really isn't! I think some of the aspects of the shading make me feel that way and the way the face turned out etc.

What do you all think?

i hate trying to position eyes in the right place, i still can't do it in sketches
but layers help a lot, you can put one eye copy on top of the nose and then arrange the real eyes so there is the space of an eye between both...eyes

i hope i'm making sense D:
i should probably not attempt at coherence this late at night

Besides the eyes, she looks great, very classic, for some odd reason she reminds me of a camo.

I did a quick Red lined, if you don't mind but it helps. Most people don't want anyone to use their lines but I don't mind you can use mine ^^

Image

first the head put me off....it's uneven, so I corrected it. the the arms were too beefy unless you were going for a curvy/chubby base. then I drew the scary part out for you the hips the legs and feet. I know how it is with your first base. you did a great job for your first time, keep studying the human body and you'll be an extraordinary base maker in no Time! <3

I think she looks great for a first attempt! I've only done a few bases (pfft, not even great ones! lol) so i will attempt some CC... I agree on the eyes being a lil too far apart, but thats easily fixable! I think a little more shading on the face to define a nose, cuz it sort of looks like there isn't one. ;)

I dont think the head is uneven, humans come in all shapes, sizes, and none of us are symmetrical! lol

I think the "bust" look is great! I don't think you need to be able to do legs to have a great base. :D Awesome job I will def use it!
New siggy coming soon!
