Moki's MDF - Khashanti from Elezhia

Post by mokia » Mon May 04, 2015 6:06 am

Ok, so like. This is a REALLY rough sketch as far as clothes/props go. But I figured I'd get my topic started. :)

We needed to include them in traditional clothes for their people and status (so to start I penciled what she would NORMALLY wear and then this is more traditional merchant clothing for her). Then we had to incorporate 5 representations of their people and their flag.

No names yet, sorry.

She is mostly humanoid. Lives in the desert, so her people have adapted large ears to help cool their bodies faster. They also have black circles around their eyes to help fight sun glare, but that's not shown yet. They also do most of their business during dawn and dusk, thus the flag with the sun and moon.

People are known for
[*]Embroidery (will be on her clothing)
[*]Irrigation (the two cups - one will be pouring water into the other)
[*]Epic stories (the big giant book)
[*]Pottery (the vases)
[*]Trade (the string of coins)

Edited to add the finished lineart. Please CC. Especially those shoes. ;_; I was trying to do like, the curly moroccan type shoes, but that's hard to do from front perspective?

@Mogget: Thanks. :)

shoes for you. you have the right idea, just needs to be bigger I think.

the outline looks great, I would have squares of different desert fabric up when you shade the clothes to remind you of the texture and light weight feel of the linens and silks and what not that help keep them cool. Plus lots of patterns that youre great at and shiny things.

Ok, haven't tried to fix the shoes yet, but help me pick a color scheme! I present to you four diff ones and I'm not attached to ANY of them. Or any combo of them.

Keeping in mind that no matter what they will be more colorful once I do patterns/embroidery

Oh my god I love them all O.O

If I absolutely HAVE to pick, though, I'd go with the far right.

I like the first and fourth color schemes the best!
Also, I am crazy excited to watch this as you continue with it. It looks like it's going to be so cool!

Okay, so the position of her right hand looks really off to me. It looks too bent at the wrist.
I think the hand you have now would look more natural if there was more of a bend at the elbow.
I took a ref pic for you (please ignore my jammies).

As for the color schemes, I like 4 best even though it doesn't really pop against the bg color. I find the color combo most appealing. 2 would be my second choice.
I own Atton Rand from KoTOR 2, Boy Blue from Fables, and Joker from Mass Effect. NO TOUCHY.

Since embroidery is a big part of the country, I would think brightly embroidered designs would stand out beautifully against a more subdued cloth like #4. That way you can really let the intricacy shine.

Good luck!

So I'm thinking of ditching the cups because I can't make it look right with BOTH hands being in the right position to pour the glass from one to the other.

Also I'm switching the pottery to glasswork because it seems pottery is a popular thing for the "hot" climates...

Should I just fill some of the glass with water?

Made some placeholder glass totems and changed the table to glass (will actually make a new table when I'm doing the props)

Started embroidery on her pants until I figure out about the arms. Colors are placeholders.

Fixed the arms and got rid of the vases now that I actually understand the rules.
Will I finish in time? Probably not! :D
