Princess Bubble Gum in Rehearsals: R2 (Blood Inside)

Round 1:

Current WIP:

Image
Base

The pose is a combination of two different Mandarin poses (don't worry, I checked their rules before squashing the two together).

So, here's the idea I got in my head a few days ago:
I was thinking at work that the problem with my bathtub idea was that A) the perspective I wanted had no way of showing really clearly that what she'd be sitting in is blood, and B) I didn't have a way to imply that the blood came from someone she had killed. And while I was thinking I got this picture of her sitting in the tub with the blood dripping from her hands, like she'd scooped it up out of the tub.

For the item she needs to be wearing with her color, I'm thinking a Bubble Gum Pink towel around her hair.

I'm still considering what to do about Issue B, and I'm thinking I'll shrink down another Mandarin pose and have it a bit off in the background as a silhouette and see if the idea comes across from that.

What's above is what I have of the concept so far. I squished a couple poses to show what I'm thinking of, and got a tub at least started. I want to add a faucet to it, but I don't feel like do the pipes tonight, so I'm just going to leave this here.

The more I thought about it, the more I felt like showing her killing someone wouldn't really be striking enough to help me improve in the pageant. It seemed like it would be a pretty routine blackmail, and I would need a really awesome murder scene to make it stand out, which I wasn't sure I'd be able to do.

I still want to use the tub idea in Round 3 too. I'm thinking, of course, that I'll make a different tub for Round 3, but I feel like the irony of her dying in a bath tub would be stronger if she's actually shown IN a tub for this round first. Otherwise it'll just be "She died in the bathroom" and I'll be the only one who knows it actually has a connection to her story.

The tub in the top left was the reference I used for what I made.

The lineart at the bottom was made by DHF and provided for me by Keke. The rules don't let us use premade lineart, but I wanted something to get an idea of what size to make mine, and I wanted to the pose done before my own lineart was done. So I used the DHF lineart to help me visualize what the pose would actually look like IN something before I got around to doing my own work.

Just a thought - she could actually have a mask that looks like PB's face. Hehee ;)

I think I'd still lose points for that since I'm not sure that'd be very clearly candy-themed.

You could make it look like a lollipop with PB's face across the middle. :) Like a pink lollipop.

Okay, so I got an update with what I'm thinking for a dress up. She's a redhead for now, but nothing is set for sure. She might end up blonde.

I'm trying to combine the two dresses I have here:

Image

The sleeves will be translucent, and the pattern on the sleeves will be stripes for the candy theme. I'm also going to eventually add little white sprinkles to the edge of the petals on the skirt, like the sprinkles on sno caps or the sugar on gum drops. I might even make select petals different colors, like you see sometimes, in order to try to help get the candy idea across.

I'm not quite sure how I did on the shape, though.

And no, I'm not done putting the candy stripes on the sleeves yet. I just got tired of being on my computer for the night, so I decided to stop where I was and I'll pick it up sometime soon.

And I want to keep both hands in view so I can have the hand resting in front of the skirt holding the mask. I'm not sure how much I'm willing to edit it at this point.

First - Love the idea of a candy theme! That's so fun, and perfect for the name and inspiration you chose.

I like the ideas happening with the dress, but her skirt looks a bit less full than you have in your inspiration - dunno if that is intentional or not, but thought I would point it out. Also, the bottom edge of the skirt on the left (her right) side looks off, like it maybe droops down a bit too far, I think that's what's throwing it off. In general I think the shapes of the fabric pieces on the skirt are good though, and covering them in sugary awesomeness is going to be great. I'd probably go for more of the gumdrop glittery all over the pieces, and then maybe the sno-drop type sugar on the edges to make them pop, but that's total preference.

Maybe you could add some candy-like bits around the neckline, too.

Can't wait to see what you do with it!

SO! Between C/C from Pyro in chat and Cait here, I've got a version of my entry that I'm MUCH more happy with. If anyone has any suggestions for fixes to make, I'll check it out tomorrow.

Otherwise, I'm getting back on my candy striped sleeves.

So much improvement on the skirt! Now that I'm looking at it, I think you should widen the shoulders and body of the portrait to match the fullbody.

Dress flats and details (on a separate layer, nobody worry) done! Decided to do the sugared all over look, and put some on the bodice.

I want to figure out some appropriate jewelry to add too. And of course I need to work on her hair and the mask in her hand on the fullbody. Plus, I want to add a tiara or something.

Maybe she could have a bracelet or something made out of gumballs. Or maybe a necklace pendant with one of those swirly lollipops you find at carnivals and such. ( https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/73 ... e2c892.jpg )

Maybe a modernized 17-18th century hairstyle? It's always reminded me of cotton candy. It can get really "Bride of Frankenstein" if you aren't careful though. ( http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qDMLuc1a3ow/U ... _large.jpg )

I'm digging the sugared look!

I ONLY HAVE ONE PIECE FOF ADVICE FOR THIS: HAVE FUN DOING IT AND FORGET EVERYTHING ELSE.

And one other thing - remember that red hair and pink clothes sometimes clash, so a strawberry blonde or a auburn might be better if you're set on a reddish tone.

Good luck with that dress, though. I did the same exact skirt for MDI a few years ago xD

Yeah, the longer I've worked on it the more I've been thinking I'll change the hair color xD I've just been waiting to decide on a hairstyle.

I'm hesitant to go with the 18th century style because I'm afraid of making it look TOO old since we're only allowed to go back so many decades. And I really want something I nicely stick a little crown on. I just haven't landed on the right one yet, which is starting to worry me.

I'm also thinking of messing with the neckline a bit, because originally I was thinking of going for a 50s-ish feel, but after messing with the two original dresses so much, I wonder if it's actually a bit too modern for that... And I was kind of hoping that maybe messing with the bodice a bit would help with that part.

Double post, but the fullbody now has updated hair color and...hair in general. I'm hoping she doesn't look like she's coming straight out of somewhere past the decade limit, but in Chat Keke said she thought it looked good.

I think I want to give her lots of pearls, and I kinda want to alternate white, black, and pink pearls, hopefully so it's kinda like a candy necklace/bracelet sort of look.

Okay, colors for the fullbody are done. I'm pretty sure I got everything covered. I just did a quick sketch of a mask on the portrait while working on the version in the fullbody because I wanted to make sure I knew how the alignment of the eye holes would be on the fullbody and I wanted them to match.

Though it's hard to tell some details right now (including the mask). I'm hoping that will change once things are shaded and have depth added.

And I changed all the pearls to, well, ACTUAL pearls, instead of vague white shapes to be shaded later. I decided to go with four pearl colors: white, pink, black, and gold.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure lines and colors for both dolls are done and ready to shade.

I could definitely use some C/C and help on the arm of the portrait. With the stick and the portrait pose, it looked weird having the mask without showing an arm holding it, so I needed to add one really quick. I did that with Debb's help over Skype yesterday, but if there's more C/C I'll take it.

I'll be starting with shading the fullbody, so there's time for C/C on portrait lines before I commit to them and start shading everything on it.
