Rick and Morty CRITIQUE NEEDED

Post by Lollie-Anne » Wed Aug 02, 2017 8:33 am

I'm doing this as an "audition" for a video about Rick and Morty, it's supposed to be in the usual Rick and Morty style but with a chalky, sketchy twist. The background and alien was up to me but where they're placed and emotions/ poses were predetermined. This could be a really big deal for me if I got through to the next stage so please, HARSH CC.

Hmmm... in my opinion it looks sweet, but I'll have my Zak take a look and get back to you. He's a Rick & Morty fanboy, and he may have more input specific to the series.

Unfortunately, I don't really watch Rick and Morty but I've seen the commercials and I think you got their facial expressions spot on to be honest. I'm not good at critiquing, but I actually like this. It looks cute.

I'm not familiar with the show, so I can't speak to the stylistic portion. There are parts that look off to me, if they are consistent with the show then leave em, but I don't know the difference.

I think the outline is a little light to me, it would look better with a slightly darker brown. It is also a little sketchy and doesn't look solid, like a crayon rather than a pen. I don't think the outlines should be solid lines, but filling in some of the holes would make them look better.

I really like the alien design, but the shading on the alien is completely not related to the drips. I don't think they should match up exactly because of the style, but I do think the gradient should curve around the drips.

Thank you for your feedback :) The outline being sketchy was intentional at that's the style of the videos that it's for but I agree it is perhaps too light. Okay I get what you mean about the drips, thank you that's really helpful :D

I have consulted the Zak.

"Rick and Morty fanboy here, I immediately knew what you were channeling when I looked at this image. The alien from Ricksy Business, the mountain with the eye in it... spot on. I could see this being used in one of their shorts. WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB"
