Pyrochan's Artbook - Update March 5th

Postby Pyrochan » Mon Aug 20, 2012 4:53 pm

So instead of Spamming this forum with all the Artz I shall now keep to one thread and just keep adding new things. :D

Feel free to comment and all like usual :D

I'm starting off with the endeavors of the past couple of days. I discovered pattern making.

I use Colour Lovers to make patterns and I might have fallen in love with it. XD The right software certainly helps.

I swear this is the last pattern I've drawn tonight. I swear.
I also coloured it with the scheme from "the bookworm" which I thought appropriate.

Thanks Lola,

The cats have been pretty popular, but cats always are XD

Here are a few more patterns I worked on today. I've been experimenting with working with shape too, not just the coloured in lines, esp since there's no ability to vary line width. I also have some illustrations cooking :D

Polgara the Sorceress
from the David Edding's novels.

Taking a break and doing some fun old character and costume designing.

She's draw in ink and markers and although I did digitally gradient the background it was mostly to ground the character.

Nothing fancy or emotional, just a doodle that kept going on cos I loved her hands.. XD

@Nunu I wanted to draw polgara as something not stereotype medieval look because tbh David Edding's is stereotyped enough XD

@Kiba Thanks :D I have more patterns I've yet to put here, I'll get round to it sometime... XD

AAnd for today.

i adore her purple nails :D i love all of it and i find your style highly addicting to look at, the the fact her nails are painted the same purple give it such a polished look.

and her eyesssss. they look so kind and happy but also like she watches everything you do so you better be on watch on time or she'll know

I'm really loving those repeating patterns, they have really nice balance between detail, colour and repetition c:

I finally got round to upgrading to GIMP 2.8 (I was still on 2.6) and I’m in Love, Pride and Prejudice style.

Look at what the brushes do to my lines!

Oh I think I’m going to have to draw even more now. (It’s a shame it doesn’t magically make my drawings of hands any better)

My secret santa gift to ~Fey-R

She requested one of her OCs, Victoria, in a kind of wintery setting. I gathered from references Victoria is something to do with Harry Potter, and so I had some fun with the owl post and wizards robes.

I took the opportunity to have a little illustration fun with the snow and the colours (trying to avoid typical icy colours) and I hope it turned out well

I really envy your colour sense ;-; The colours you use are so nicely balanced! I especially like the patterns the simplistic style and colour palette are really soothing :'>

@mochikun
Colour was my aim for 2012, to learn to use it better over the year. I had found I had the ability to draw but my work was lacking colour wise, and so I sought to change it. I am quite content with the outcomes. I now need a new goal for 2013! XD

That's exactly the problem I've been having recently UGHGHGH I've always known that colours are so important and I've been slowly struggling with it ;_;

By the way your new sketch is so nice ;-; Red and aqua go so well together

Re: Pyrochan's Artbook - Update Jan 26th

I started almost from scratch and started collecting images I liked purely because the colours were nice, and making special effort to use their colours in my next image. As the year went on I found that choosing colours became much more natural to me, but I kept admiring and 'stealing' colour schemes from images.

It's the only way really to learn, the same way we learn anatomy by looking we learn colours by looking.

I also spent a while on sites like Colour Lovers and Design Seeds which isolate out colour schemes and you begin to get a sense of which colour schemes you love and how to pair colours to create a feel you want etc.

And thanks for the comment on the sketch :D I hated the blue/teal/aqua at first paired with the red but then I got the balance right and it just popped and now I'm like "yeah first instincts should be stuck to" XD

Ach I am totally going to try colour stealing now hahahaha I remeber using colour palette Tumblrs for colours and for the most part it turned out ok.

Your sketch just reminded me of some good times I had when I went subway sketching with red and teal markers.

The Angry Redhead

One of the most useless and easy images I’ve drawn in a while but I was getting angry at another picture (hence why this redhead is also angry) so I had to restore faith in myself.

Faith Restored.

For the Manga/Anime Repeating Contest, Feb 2013

The Theme was to draw a Character Design based on a Flower, this is the Yellow Archangel (Lamiastrum sp)

I haven’t drawn anything Manga/Anime style in years, and for fun I thought the M/A rep contest would be great to get back in touch with my Manga roots. The original goal was to pull on more of the visual tropes that make Manga so destinctive, and make the piece that my 14 year old self had always wanted to make but didn’t have the skills for yet.
However as goes, along the way I got distracted and some of the tropes were making me cringe, (and I just couldn’t make her face so flat and be happy) so I ended up making a fusion between what my 14 year old self wanted and my 24 year old self. I’m fairly happy with something that was initially meant to be just a doodle but ended up in a far crazier realm than anticipated.
