Medusa

Postby PunkieMunkie » Wed Oct 22, 2014 1:21 pm

I can't believe I didn't post this already.... I drew this for the 2014 Art Expo in my hometown. I took home 1st place with this drawing. The inspiration for a basic outline for the basic of the picture I found while doing a goggle search for Medusa pictures and several pictures for snakes. I used my cell phone to reference the pics since my computer had died during the summer.

*Tools used: Graphic pencils(4H, HB, 2B), Ebony pencil(for shading), Shadowing stumps(different sizes to get the different shade effects), gummy eraser & my pink pearl eraser
*Total time: Over 2 weeks.

Thank you so much :D
Those snakes were so hard to shade right... I referenced so many different pictures.
Thank you.. I actually did a happy dance when I saw the blue ribbon.

I love Medusa, but rarely see portrayals of her I like. She's either overly sexualised in fantasy art or she's portrayed as a complete monster. There's no in-between.

I think you got it spot-on with your rendition. ++++

I've always loved Medusa as well... I totally agree with you there is no in-between when it comes to work of her... I had the hardest time trying to find good references.

Thank you so much I'm really proud of how she turned out... I had to redraw her face several times until it felt and looked right :D
