Miniature figures painting

Postby Daenerys » Mon Dec 08, 2014 4:13 pm

So it is a small step from dolling to painting little itty bitty figures that can be used for say: boardgames.

And here are a few of the earlier attempts. These are all figures from the boardgame Descent. I painted them with a itsybitsy brush and all.

I have no pictures of our later attempts. But Five has been improiving on painting as well, and we're making headway through al the figures. Game is good, too.

Thanks! I do think that dolling gave me an edge on doing these little things. It's a lot of fun too, and you don't need a lot of paint. But the brushes can be expensive, so it evens out...

But it is a fun hobby!

Daenerys

I have to say that I rather like these attempts. Much better than what mine looked like, though I do have a friend that does a LOT of miniature painting and base making. I could always ask him for tips for you or look up Miniature painting on Youtube for a LOT of guides :D

Thanks Jade :) Tips are always welcome, and yes: youtube is awesome. Though sometimes when you see experienced painters just poking and stroking the brush seemingly random until something magical comes out, it kinda makes you think you can never attain that.

I don't set my goals too high, to start, thoug. I am happy if I get some details right. I gave up on the faces of the last two heroes I painted, thinking I may get back to that once I feel more confident I can do that.

Best thing is, for me, I can do this painting withou magnifying glasses or reading glasses, and since I am of an age where my contemporaries start needing reading glasses... I just feel chuffed about that (but I would get reading glasses if I could no longer see the detail on these miniatures!).

We're quite far with our painted collection so far. We've already played a campaign with almost all miniatures in play being painted! Which looked awesome!

Their awesome. I really like the 2nd one... the exposed rib cage and the side of the skull is nicely done.

Thanks all :)

I am positive that my dolling experience is helping with this. It's so similar... I mean: tiny canvas, base miniature made by someone else, and we just customise. It helps a lot that those mini's are nicely detailed, but even than we 'edit' the base if necessary.

4br4, those ladies are my favourite heroes :) I am glad you like them!
