What a DRAG! Mini Pageant - Questions

Post by AxxKat » Sun Apr 01, 2018 12:48 pm

Please ask questions here for the What a DRAG! Mini Pageant!

Questions Asked/ Answered:
Q: Does it need to be a male base?
A: nope! just a similar base for all rounds

Q: Can the character be a real drag king/queen or should it be an OC?
A: An OC is preferred, but you can doll an existing king or queen, too :)

Q: How do I learn more about Drag/ where do I get started?
A: The biggest most obsessive rant from yours truely:
I would suggest maybe just looking up a few queens or kings based on their style and going from there? i'd say with drag, the biggest part irl is transforming into a different person and just being your best you. the way this reflects into dolling, in my opinion, is the over the top fashion and costumes that go with this!

There are a lot of other styles of drag I'm not super familiar with (but from a quick google search, I really should be looking into more!) that include (but are not limited to) Bear Drag, Broadway Drag, Impersonation Drag, Drag Kings, 'Faux' Drag, Tranimal Drag and Activessle Drag.

These are sort of the main drag 'types' (in my opinion and this is certainly not a be-all end-all list!):
club kids: 80s-90s dance club personalities of new york with really artistic and thought provoking types of outfits.
Spoiler: show
Notable Queens:

Sasha Velour | Creme Fatale | Ryan Burke
Vivacious | early RuPaul
Spooky/ Goth/ Edgy: think studs, leather, black and creepy!
Spoiler: show
Notable Queens/ Kings:

Sharon Needles | Vander Von Odd | Spikey Van Dykey
Cheddar Gorgeous | Landen Cider
Pageant Queens: exactly how it sounds - queens that live for competitions and high glamour pageants. this type of drag is extremely polished and elegant.
Spoiler: show
Notable Queens: (i don't think there are pageant kings to be honest)

Alyssa Edwards | Latrice Royal | Trinity Taylor
recent RuPaul | Alexis Mateo
Camp/ Funny: humorous drag! it's funny, over the top queens! rather then googling looks and bios, i'd youtube videos of them because theyre super fun to watch!
Spoiler: show

Bianca Del Rio | BenDeLaCreme | Katya
Trixie Mattel | Bob the Drag Queen
Fish: queens that aim to look as close to a woman as possible, through fashion and make up.
Spoiler: show

Gia Gunn | Courtney Act | Kimora Blac
Tatianna | Miss Fame
Other Queens To Check Out:
There are a lot of queens that don't fit into one specific category. They try all sorts of different looks and styles. Here are some other queens that are worth checking out!

Okay, I really want to do this...but honestly, I have very little knowledge of the drag community/culture. I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction to gain insight(I love doing research, and learning about all wonderful walks of life). I've watched Skin Wars, and was absolutely amazed and inspired by Ada Vox's story on the last season of American Idol. (I still think she should of won! I don't care how small peoples mind is her voice was undeniable). Thanks a lot :)

I'll have to check that out. I'm more familiar with the world of cosplay, which has much in common with drag, and I know there's a lot of crossover between the two cultures...if it's okay with you I may stay around that idea...
